The Forêt de Soignes - The Green heart of Brussels

Less than ten kilometres from the Grand Place in the centre of Brussels, the Forêt de Soignes is one of the most beautiful and largest suburban forests in Europe. Although two-thirds of its trees were cut down in the 19th century, it still covers almost 5,000 hectares to the east and south of the city.

What is this forest? What is its history? What are the issues at stake in a time of climate change? This guide answers these questions and many more. It is divided into two parts, one for you to discover from the comfort of your sofa, the other for you to experience on foot or by bike, as you follow twenty or so walks, some signposted, others more unusual, but all clearly detailed with a map and a QR code to show you the route.
