Summary

This book will help you to prepare a field-related interview (FRI) for competitions or selection procedures, especially those organised by the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) for Administrators (AD) and Assistants (AST), as well as field-related questions in specific interviews for contract agents (CAST) or temporary agents, to get a job in the EU institutions.

It contains: an explanation about this type of exercises; an analysis of the EPSO FRI; our method to prepare field-related interviews; eight sample exercises drawn from actual interviews of EPSO competitions and other EU bodies’ selection processes, including our sample answers and many tips to develop your own responses; some examples on how to introduce yourself at the interview; and finally our conclusions and recommendations.

Our sample exercises cover the most demanded profiles (Law, Finance-Economics, Audit, Administration and Human Resources, Competition, Information Technology), along with other recent competitions for specialists who will soon sit these interviews (Energy, Climate, Environment, Crisis management, Migration and internal security, Transport).

All this from the personal and professional experience of a successful candidate in numerous tests designed by EPSO and other EU agencies (computer-based tests, intermediate tests, case studies and assessment centre interviews), being an official at the public administration in Spain and having held several positions as a Head of Unit from 2009 to the present, mostly in the areas of human resources, finance, programme management, law enforcement, competition and general administration.

He has also worked as a national expert at the European Commission, gaining additional experience on communication and political affairs at the EU level, provided training to civil servants, and coached many candidates for open competitions, helping them improve their abilities and competencies.
